Michael Twyman

Michael Twyman is Entrepreneur-in-Residence at FON Holdings where he drives the creation and implementation of business strategies to advance organic and inorganic growth for command, control, computers, communications, cyber, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance technologies. Mike also serves as President of Wizard Defense which he founded in 2020. Mike applies his 30+ years of National Security solution experience to assist clients in developing winning strategies to grow businesses and deliver meaningful solutions to warfighters.

Currently, Mike also serves as Director Dual-Use Technology & Applications for EvoNexus a non-profit technology incubator assisting companies in realizing defense applications for 5G, AI, robotics, AR/VR, IoT, cyber, Big Data, cloud, wireless, additive manufacturing, optics, sensors, and semi-conductor technologies.  Mike serves on the board of directors for Integrity Defense Systems and Bandak Aviation Inc leading strategic growth and operations initiatives.

Prior to Wizard Defense, Mike was President of Cubic Mission Solutions, a newly created C4ISR segment within Cubic.  Mike created a dual use technology portfolio developing leading positions in protected communications/networking, restricted space, New Space (commercial LEO/MEO/GEO), digital intelligence, and 5G/IoT markets. Under his leadership, Mike achieved a 10X increase in sales with 45% compounded organic growth rate over 6 years by integrating and growing multiple acquisitions/legacy business. Mike architected efforts to improve business segment profitability, increase addressable pipeline, and won programs/design positions valued at >$4B to position for continued growth.

Prior to Cubic, Mike served as Northrop Grumman’s Sector Vice President & General Manager Defense Systems Division (DSD) ($2.2B), where he led the Corporate Strategy for Command and Control (C2) and Communications to achieve #2 market position (from #4). Mike drove the execution and growth of multiple $1B+ programs including F-35 communications, navigation, and identification ($1B+ in awards), fielding of the USN CANES system plus a winning proposal for a $2B+ follow-on, and expanding operations of the Battlefield Airborne Communication Node (BACN) program spanning multiple theaters and winning an operations recompete to bring program bookings to $1.3B+.

Previously, Mike progressed as Vice President of multiple business units at Northrop Grumman (Integrated C3I Systems, Communications and Systems Technology, Joint Network Systems, Communication and Information Systems), and Director Communication and Information Systems, where hecreated strategies and built the team to grow a $35M communications business to > $1B. He led team to develop an open system product line strategy resulting in $3B+ in funded contract awards in the C4ISR market (DISA Global Command and Control System, USN Consolidated Afloat Network Enterprise System (CANES) Program, Air Operations Center (AOC) Weapon System (WS) Modernization Program, USAF Force Protection Services Contract, Counter Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar (CRAM) System to protect forward deployed locations, Joint Mission Planning (JMPS) Contract, Restricted mission planning and ISR contracts, and USCG Nationwide Automated Information System for Maritime Domain Awareness).

Mike was selected to the 2020 Wash100 list of most influential leaders in the GovCon public and private sector (https://www.wash100.com/). Mike was honored by the UCSD Jacobs School of Engineering and the Rady School of Management as a Fellow of the Architecture-based System Engineering program for contributing to program success as an industry advisor.

Mike holds a B.A. degree in Applied Mathematics from California State University at Long Beach, and an MBA from George Mason University, where he was selected as the outstanding class graduate. Mike successfully completed the International Business Program, Wilson Centre, Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, ENG, and the Executive Marketing Program, University of California, Los Angeles, CA.
